Notes:

This is a slideshow of the images in my final project. My images are preceded by the photos from the 20’s and 30’s that I used as inspiration. I’ve included the artist’s statement below.

Artist’s Statement

My project explores the art movements of the 1920s and 30s, including Dadaism, Surrealism, Bauhaus, Neue Sachlekeit, and Constructivism. I chose this period because of the emphasis on using everyday objects and scenes to provide a new perspective. Given my days are filled with tasks having little to do with photography, I am interested in developing a working process that will allow me to fit photography into my daily routine while encouraging me to use my imagination and take a fresh look at the world around me. To learn more about art history and keep my project manageable, I worked from well-known photographs, freely borrowing from themes, subject matter, and compositions. I kept a sketchbook handy throughout the day to record ideas and plan shoots. Using color, macro lenses, and a thin depth of field, I attempted to impart an aesthetic and mood of my own. The result is a working process better suited to my lifestyle and a series of photographs reflecting my day-to-day existence, albeit with a twist.
