Untitled, Oakland, California, 2024.

Notes:

I’m still waiting on the Fujifilm 18mm f/1.4 (28mm equivalent) lens, so I decided to see what I could accomplish with the 16mm f/1.4 (24mm equivalent). While less than ideal, I cropped this image significantly to eliminate distortion and make the security measures more visible. I also skipped the “guided” and “auto” options in Lightroom’s “transform” section, opting for the “vertical” and “horizontal” controls instead. To my eye, the results look much more natural. The porch on this church is typical of the structures in my neighborhood. The walls of the church are true, as is the foundation of the porch, but the roof is slanted, the column to the right leans, and the sidewalk has a mild incline. Figuring out how to photograph these buildings is proving to be a challenge, but lighting aside, I’m happy with this effort. I’d like to return with a shorter lens and try again.
