Possible Kertész Study, Oakland, California, 2024.

Notes:

I am excited to announce that I am in the process of applying to UC Berkeley Extension’s visual arts post-baccalaureate program. The application requires an artist statement, resume, and 10-12 images. I’ve been in contact with the visual arts department to clarify a few questions, and I’m hoping to submit all the materials in 1-2 months.

As I was looking through Lightroom for possible submissions, I came across this image. While I don’t know that this is one I would want to include, I had always intended to correct it. It shouldn’t be too difficult to fix. The white balance was off when I shot it, and the white background wasn’t adjusted properly in post. This caused significant problems when I had it printed.

I’d also like to play around with the composition. I’ve been thinking a square aspect ratio might be interesting. For some reason, I always see a clock when I look at this photo. This is something I would like to explore.

Previous Notes:

Today was my first day of shooting photos for my photography class final project. I set up a table next to a window with direct light and used a white paper backdrop with a reflector. Despite all the fumbling, I managed to get some good results here and there. This image is based on what I thought was an André Kertész photo, but I haven’t found it attributed to him on an official museum site. Something else for the to-do list!
