Self-portraits

To commemorate my 50th birthday, I created a series of natural light black-and-white self-portraits influenced by Richard Avedon’s white backgrounds and Irving Penn’s side lighting and poses.  These self-portraits speak to the joys and challenges of being queer and disabled, the impossible difficulties associated with failing to fit into a single box, and the incredible freedom and independence of not being constrained by the usual rules and norms.
